The Historic District neighborhood is just to the southeast of the city of Carrboro. This North Carolina city is located west of Chapel Hill and is in Orange County. The Historic District shares the 27510 zip code with the remainder of the city.
This neighborhood is bordered by East Carr Street on the north. Maple Avenue is on the eastern boundary, and South Greensboro Street is on the western border, but a portion of Old Pittsboro Road is also included. Mature trees shelter homes and provide privacy from neighbors. Residences are spaced well apart for an even more secluded feeling.
Public transportation is available on South Greensboro and on Main Street, directly to the north of the neighborhood. South Greensboro also has sidewalks, making pedestrian travel safer. West Main Street has restaurants and coffee shops, as well as local shopping for residents. South Greensboro Street provides residents will direct access to Route 54, while Route 86 to the east affords access to Interstate 40.
University Lake is west of the community, on Jones Ferry Road, and has a large recreational area. The Henry W. Baldwin Park is northeast, and the Charles Herman Wilson Park is north, off North Greensboro Street. Carrboro is noted for having one of the largest bikeways in the state.
The Historic District is also an excellent location for anyone who enjoys a college environment. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is only minutes away. The campus covers a huge area east of the neighborhood and has playgrounds, parks, stadiums, and the University of North Carolina Hospital. Bus routes are available on all main streets throughout the area.
