Hanna Street, located in Carrboro, a western suburb of Raleigh, North Carolina, is bounded on the north by Bolton Creek Drive, Walters Road on the east, Stable Road on the west and North Greensboro Street on the south. Residents can easily walk to downtown Carrboro with multiple stores and shops or to the neighborhood school, Carrboro Elementary, with classes for K to 5 and a student teacher ratio of 1 to 14.
The town has an excellent Recreation and Parks Department. Hanna Street residents can stop at Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St., 27510 for a map of the Historic District. This 1.8 mile walking tour is a great introduction to this community which honors the past and plans for the future of its residents. Some of the historic sites on the tour include the Town Commons, where community and holiday events are held, and The Farmers Market offering seasonal produce twice a week. Twenty stops are on the tour including the Lloyd Gristmill and Carrboro Railroad Station. The Carr Mill Mall, located in a landmark building erected in 1898, was restored and is now home to offices, stores, and restaurants.
The active recreation department has a cooperative relationship with the Orange County parks program providing residents with information and access to the over 40 parks in the county area. Local programs developed for Carrboro residents include youth baseball and football programs, a community gardening project, a dog park, and a new 18 hole disc golf course. Carrboro also has an extensive bicycle program with bike lanes planned and installed on state road projects. Maps are available with the multiple bike paths highlighted.
