Roughly 20 minutes directly north of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, is the neighborhood of Eagle Point. This community consists of just a few streets and a few dozen home sites north of Westbrook Drive and east of Six Forks Road. Miles Drive is the neighborhood’s main street. Strawbridge Court and Bramble Court branch off from Miles to create three cul-de-sacs. Eagle Point is in the 27615 zip code area; like most of Raleigh, it falls within Wake County.
The Eagle Pointe community is about .022 square miles in area and is home to less than 125 residents. The homes here were built between 1950 and 2000, with the 70s and 80s seeing the most significant building boom. The median household income here in 2008 was about $6,500 higher than the city average of $53,825.
Amenities close to home include two shopping centers and a private golf club about a mile to the east of the neighborhood. For those who can afford the membership, the North Ridge Country Club is very prestigious and offers a variety of amenities, including two 18-hole courses. The North Ridge Center and adjacent retail area offer access to the necessities via a grocery store and drug store. There is also a salon and spa, several banks, and a variety of restaurants. From sushi to BBQ, this retail area probably has what you’re craving.
About four miles northeast of Eagle Point is a popular area park – Durant Nature Park. This dog-friendly park is a great place for families and their pets. Among the amenities at this suburban park are playgrounds, picnic areas, a boathouse, and trails for walking, jogging, biking, and dog walking. As the name suggests, this park is also popular for nature viewing. Several species of plants and birds can be found here, as well as a butterfly garden.
The downtown area, which is about eight miles south of Eagle Point, offers the State Capitol, several museums, and a handful of colleges and universities. North Carolina State University is by far the largest university in the area and one of the state’s most prominent public institutions.
