Durston is situated four miles from Interstate 540, and southeast of the Raleigh-Durham airport. The community appears to be equally divided between apartment complexes and custom-built homes. Most residents own at least one vehicle.

Several restaurants can be found in or around the Durston area, but one of the most popular snack spots is located a mile or so outside of the neighborhood. Locopops is a tradition in the Triangle area of North Carolina. The shop grows its own ingredients, which are then used to create gourmet popsicles in a range of unique flavors. At only $2 each, people can even purchase these treats for their canine companions in either beef or chicken flavored pops. The snack shop donates proceeds from the pet pops to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Families and kids at heart of all ages might enjoy a visit to Ganyard Hill Farm, located less than five miles from the community. There they can experience farm life by milking a practice cow for buckets of water or try their hand at picking, shucking and shelling corn and feeding goats, chickens, and other live farm animals.

Foodies might like to try one of the only five farmers markets owned and operated by the state in nearby Raleigh. The market, which covers more than 70 acres and has more than 30,000 individual shopping booths, offers locally grown fruits, vegetables, plants, and trees as well as handmade arts and crafts. Along with produce, the market’s North Carolina Meat and Cheese Center features a variety of farmstead cheeses and locally raised and specialty meats, including beef and poultry, ostrich, and bison.
