The City Center District forms an almost diamond shape in the city of Durham, North Carolina. The area has a zip code of 27701 and is part of Durham County. The district is nicely laid out with sidewalks for pedestrians and off street parking areas. The Durham Amtrak Runs just outside the area making things easy for commuters.
The City Center District is north of the Durham Freeway, Route 147. The district is bordered by the downtown loop of Route 70 on the southwest and Route 501, North Mangum Street, on the east. These roads meet at the southern most point of the district, creating the bottom of the diamond. West Morgan Street, Route 98, curves around the top of the district, creating the northern border.
West Morgan Street is a one way street for traffic headed west. Inside the City Center District are East Chapel Hill Street, a one way street heading east and portions of West main Street, Morris Street, Foster Street and Rigsbee Avenue. Many smaller streets run through the center. The Durham Civic Center Complex and a US Post Office are inside the district just below West Morgan Street. A smaller complex of the Durham Technical Community College is on the western edge of the district.
The Durham Athletic Park is to the north of the district. Forest Hills Park is south below Route 147. The Enon River State Park can be reached by taking Route 147 north to Interstate 85 west, a distance of about twelve miles.
Duke University, home of the Blue Devils, can be found just to the west, with the Duke University East Campus less than a mile from the City Center district. North Carolina Central University and Durham Technical Community College are only short drive on Route 147 to the south.
