Bynwood is a subdivision of Wilson, located in zip code 27893. It’s situated south of the downtown area and Ward Boulevard/US 264/US 301. Other nearby major thoroughfares include North Carolina 58/US 264 to the east and Black Creek Road South to the west.
This neighborhood is comprised of several streets, including a small portion of Bynwood Drive Southeast, Penny Lane, Nickel Drive and Minchew Street Southeast. It is surrounded by woods, some farmland and other neighborhoods. The houses were built in the 1980s, and many have mature trees. There are no sidewalks, but the streets are level and provide a good space for walking and riding bikes.
Recreation and parks abound in the city of Wilson. South of Bynwood is the Wedgewood Golf Course, an 18-hole municipal golf course with a 20-tee driving range. West of Bynwood is the Wiggins Mill Reservoir, which offers boat rentals, bank and boat fishing and a bait shop.
Unique museums in Wilson include the Oliver Nestus Freeman Round House Museum and the North Carolina Baseball Museum at Fleming Stadium. The Round House Museum displays artifacts that illustrate the culture and contributions of African Americans to the history and development of Wilson. The Baseball Museum, which is a tribute to the baseball players who played in North Carolina, has a collection of bricks called the Walk of Fame.
The downtown area is home to shops and restaurants, the Downtown Alive concert series on Wednesday evenings, and a farmers market. Shopping centers and malls dot the city and include the Shoppes at Brentwood, which offers the locally-owned Pup’s Steakhouse.
