About eight miles north of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, is the neighborhood of Ashley Ridge. It consists of just two streets northwest of Lead Mines Road – Ashley Ridge Drive and Capers Court. Within a mile southeast of the neighborhood is Shelley Lake Park. A popular destination for area families and dog owners, this park features a 53-acre lake surrounded by three miles of paved trails ideal for walking, jogging or bike riding. There is open space for playing games or picnicking, and ducks waiting to be fed on the lake. The lake also offers fishing and boating, and boat rentals are available. Some of the species you might catch here include sunfish, catfish, carp and bass.
The William B. Umstead State Park is also within five miles of Ashley Ridge. This large park spans nearly 5,500 acres and offers a variety of amenities, including hiking, camping and wildlife viewing. Next to the state park on the northwest is the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, providing convenient travel options for frequent business travelers.
Two shopping centers are conveniently located within a few miles southwest of the neighborhood, providing local shopping options for Ashley Ridge residents. Among these is the Crabtree Valley Mall, one of the area’s more prominent shopping centers.
