Residents of Addison Park have the best of both worlds, with a short walk to the peaceful Lake Crabtree County Park and a short drive to area urban centers. This small neighborhood is close to the Raleigh-Durham airport and interchanges for Interstate 40 and Interstate 540, which provide an easy commute to major business centers in the Research Triangle Park, Cary, and downtown Raleigh.
Lake Crabtree County Park is a recreation center offering everything from sand volleyball courts to canoeing to mountain biking trails. Just to the east is William B. Umstead State Park, a 5,500-acre urban oasis crisscrossed with hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. The park also features campsites and picturesque spots for fishing, picnicking, and observing nature.
For conveniences such as grocery stores and bank branches, nearby Park Place Shopping Center and Harrison Pointe Shopping Center are a quick drive. Some of the areas best malls, including Morrisville Outlet Mall, Cary Towne Center and Crossroads Plaza, as well as Crabtree Valley Mall and Southpointe Mall, are close.
Downtown Cary offers a small-town atmosphere with specialty shops, mom-and-pop restaurants and local bakeries such as Serendipity Gourmet Deli. In August, the downtown Cary hosts the annual Lazy Daze Arts and Crafts Festival, which includes food and entertainment and draws almost 50,000 people.
For an evening out on the town, residents head to downtown Raleigh and its nightlife and restaurant scene. From comedy clubs to hole-in-the-wall bars to dance clubs, downtown attracts an eclectic crowd. Some of the best restaurants in the Triangle area such as 42nd Street Oyster Bar and Irregardless Cafe have become downtown favorites.
