Hillsborough is a dynamic, progressive town weaved with history. Founded in 1754, Hillsborough is home to a vast number of historic sites and cemeteries. It is located just 13 miles northwest of Durham.

The Orange County Historical Museum chronicles life in Hillsborough from colonial days through industrialization. The Orange County Visitors Center is located in the 18th-century Alexander Dickson House. The Ayr Mount Historic Site is an 1815 Federal-era plantation house. There’s also the Old Orange County Courthouse, built in 1844 and still in use as a government building, and the Occaneechi Indian Village.

The historic district is on the National Register of Historic Places and contains over 100 buildings. The downtown area is walkable and charming, with antique stores, specialty shops, arts and crafts, and nightclubs. Daniel Boone Antique Village contains roughly 30 antique stores. The Eno River Farmer’s Market runs April through November every Saturday.

Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are both about 10 miles away. Hillsborough has excellent schools and lovely neighborhoods, so find your home in this charming southern town today.
