Union Ridge is a neighborhood in the city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in Forsyth County. West Clemmonsville Road forms the northern border of the neighborhood and the John Gold Memorial Expressway the east. Hilton Street and Clinard Avenue border the south and Cora’s Drive the west. The area is mainly residential and composed of single family homes and apartment buildings. There are also a few businesses in the neighborhood, including an auto repair shop, detail shop, and a small engine repair.
There are many parks in the area, including Parkland Park. The park features shelters, picnic tables, a playground, and a pool. The nearby Washington Park is 75 acres in size and offers ball fields, basketball courts, and trails. Forest Park has a lot of open space to roam, with trails, playground equipment, tennis courts, and ball fields. Central Park has a pool, playground, ball fields and tennis courts. The Willshire Golf Club is south of the neighborhood. The 18-hole regulations course was opened in 1967 and features 6,164 yards of green for a par 71.
Schools in the area include Griffith Elementary School, Konnoake Elementary School, Philo Middle School, Middle School Academy, Parkland High School and Carter Vocational High School. The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is located north of Union Ridge as is the Forsyth Technical Community College, which opened in 1960 and every year adds more and more courses to its curriculum. Winston-Salem State University is also located nearby.
