Quail Hill Farms is a residential neighborhood of High Point.
The neighborhood is close to World’s Largest Chest of Drawers. High Point is known as the “Home Furnishings Capital of the World” and has the landmark to prove it. The chest was built in the 1920s by the High Point Chamber of Commerce to honor its major business. A Goddard-Townsend block front chest was used as a prototype, and in 1996, the original 20-foot bureau building was converted into a 38-foot tall chest of drawers. To make the building more believable, two socks dangle from an upper drawer.
Another chest of drawers, over 80 feet tall, was made as an attachment to a furniture store called Furnitureland South.
Although the World’s Largest Chest of Drawers is located in High Point, it is close to other offbeat landmarks in nearby North Carolina neighborhoods and cities. Visitors will find a shell-shaped gas station in Winston Salem, the world’s largest Duncan Phyfe chair is in Thomasville, and the world’s largest highboy chest in Jamestown.
The Piedmont Environmental Center was founded in 1972 and is a division of the High Point Parks and Recreation, City of High Point. The 376-acre property operates 11 miles of hiking trails and has a 7,000-square foot education building.
The center has an education and entertainment program given by a staff of qualified naturalists. Residents of the Triad region can experience activities including field classes, guided outdoor hikes, nature expeditions, and other outdoor opportunities. The center serves children to seniors by providing classes, events, and ecotours.
Hagen-Stone Park is a city park with features that include a campground, fishing ponds, picnic shelters, and playgrounds. It has trails for hiking, biking, cross country running, and nature walking. The park’s pool is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
