Old Town Heights lies in a heavily wooded spot in Winston Salem. Old Town Road runs through the center and gives access to sub streets. There is a bike lane on nearby Reynolda Road and bus lines on Bethabarra Road as well as Reynolda Road and Elkin Road. Old Town Heights is in Forsyth County.
Bethabara Park is adjacent to Old Town Heights and is within walking distance. Bethabara Park is a historic site that was originally a Moravain village, settled 250 years ago. There is a museum on the grounds as well as a visitors’ center. Bethabara Park has over 20 miles of scenic hiking trails along with a bike path running through the outer edge and continuing into the city. Monarcas Creek runs through the park.
There are several nearby lakes — Shattalon Lake, Mallard Lake Lower, Mallard Lake Upper, Clinard Lake, and K and W Lake.
A short drive from Old Town Heights is North Point Mall. The double-level mall’s anchor stores are J.C. Penney’s, Dillard’s, Macy’s and Sears. The mall is home to upscale shops and specialty stores, as well as several restaurants. North Point Mall is on the Reynalda Road bus line. Other nearby shopping centers include Reynalda Manor Shopping Center and Northchase Shopping Center.
Reynalda Gardens on the Wake Forest University campus offers gardening events and the woodlands and wetlands. The gardens emphasize the need to conserve natural areas and teach visitors how to maintain their own grounds and gardens.
Old Town Heights is a modest family neighborhood that is close to many of Winston Salem’s attractions, schools and downtown.
