Hootstown is a neighborhood located in the town of Winston-Salem, the county-seat of North Carolina. The northern border is formed by Interstate 40 and Old Salisbury Road South West borders the neighborhood on the eastern side. The area incorporates Sedgewick Street, Lovedale Avenue, Fairfield Drive, and Brewer Road. The community of Hootstown itself is residential, but directly east of the area is populated by commercial properties and businesses. There are car dealerships, auto part stores, a K-Mart and an animal hospital.
Hootstown is located near several shopping centers. These include Cook’s Shopping Center, Parkway Plaza, and the Marketplace Mall, They are all located north east of the neighborhood. These shopping centers offer residents an Office Depot, Hamrick’s and a Schwinn Bicycle Shop. Dining options include, but are not limited to, Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi, pizza parlors, McDonalds, and a Waffle House.
Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy the nearby Myers Lake. The lake is located just southwest of the neighborhood and is a popular place for fly fishing or bait casting. The lake is stocked with rock bass, brook trout, and northern pike. Families with children will appreciate that Hootstown’s is conveniently located near Parkland Park. The park features shelters, picnic tables, a playground and a pool. The nearby Washington Park is 75 acres in size and offers ball fields, basketball courts, and trails.
Schools in the area include Parkland High School, Philo Middle School, Philo Academy, Konnoak Elementary School and the Forsyth Winston-Salem School. Also in the vicinity is the Forsyth Technical Community College. The college opened in 1960 and every year adds more and more courses to its curriculum.
