Winston-Salem is a lively city roughly 30 miles west of Greensboro, North Carolina known, among other, things for hosting the nationally recognized Wake Forest University. Bordering the university on the northeast is the Brookwood neighborhood. This community is bounded by University Parkway on the west, Brownsboro Road on the north, and North Cherry and Dalton streets on the east. Polo Road crosses the neighborhood from west to east. Brookwood is in the 27106 zip code area, within Forsyth County.
The Brookwood neighborhood is mostly residential, consisting of single-family homes and wooded areas. Close proximity to the university makes this an ideal neighborhood for students or faculty members. The university area is also a breeding ground for arts and culture, and several cultural attractions can be found within a few minutes south of Brookwood. Among these are the Reynolda Gardens of Wake Forest University, Reynolda House Museum of American Art and The Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art.
Roughly a dozen or so retail centers are situated within five miles of Brookwood, making it easy for residents to shop locally. Some of the closest to home include the Northchase, University Plaza and Pine Ridge shopping centers.
Opportunities for outdoor recreation abound near Brookwood as well. To the northwest is the Minorcas Creek Par 3 Golf Course, and to the southwest is the Polo Park and Recreation Center. The downtown area, which is just a 12-minute drive from Brookwood, hosts several popular city parks, including Reynolds Park and Washington Park. Additional amenities in the downtown area include several prominent medical centers and smaller colleges and universities.
Brookwood residents may also belong to the Forsyth Country Club, which is located within five miles to the southwest, on Country Club Road. In addition to being a scenic 18-hole course, this country club also offers tennis courts, an aquatic center and fitness facilities.
