The Bethabara neighborhood is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It is bordered on the northern side by Bethabara Park Lane, its eastern boundary is just past Bethabara Road, and the border of its western side is Bethabara Park. To the south is Old Town Road and Cowen Court. It is a mostly residential area although there are a few businesses in the neighborhood.
Bethabara Park is a National Historic Landmark and is the site of the 1753 Moravian Settlement. The Moravians are German Protestants who trace their ancestry to Jan Hus, a Bohemian Priest who was martyred in 1415. Bethabara Park is 183 acres in size and home to 126 species of birds. The park features 20 miles of nature trails and a beaver pond with two observation decks where visitors can view beavers, otters, mink, foxes, woodchucks, and deer. The museum features a restored and furnished 1788 church, the only eighteenth-century German church with attached living quarters remaining in the United States. There are archeological ruins, including the 1782 “Potter’s House,” the oldest brick building in Forsyth County. There is a visitor center with exhibits, videos, and guided tours by costumed tour guides. There is also a reconstructed village, colonial and medical gardens, and a French and Indian War Fort. The gift shop sells hand-crafted Moravian and colonial souvenirs. The park also hosts many concerts, festivals, and events throughout the year.
Babcock Lake, to the east of the neighborhood, offers fishing and camping. Just north of the Bethabara neighborhood is the Minorcas Creek Par 3 Golf Course. Also nearby are the University Plaza Shopping Center and the North Chase Shopping Center.
