Atwood Acres is a large residential community in southwest Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This community consists of several streets south of Hanes Mall Boulevard, east of Interstate 40 and north of Somerset Drive. It is bounded by South Stratford Road on the east, which runs parallel to the railroad tracks. Among the main roadways in this community are Atwood Road and Farmbrook Road. Atwood Acres is in the 27103 zip code area, within Forsyth County.
The majority of this neighborhood is devoted to single-family homes, but the northeast corner of the community hosts several apartment complexes and a commercial building. The southeast border of the community also hosts a few commercial offerings. The far northern and southern portions of the community are well shaded.
Several attractions can be found within a short drive of Atwood Acres. Roughly one mile east of the community is the Heather Hills Golf Course, an executive length 18-hole course that is considered highly playable for nearly any skill level.
Approximately one mile north of the Atwood Acres neighborhood is the Hanes Mall, one of the most popular shopping centers in the city. Anchored by a Macy’s, Sears, Belk and JCPenney, this indoor retail complex also offers a food court, movie theater and carousel, as well as plenty of specialty shops and eateries. Several additional shopping centers can be found within a few miles east of Hanes Mall, along I-40.
Adjacent to the mall on the north is the Forsyth Medical Center, which constitutes a convenient health care option for Atwood Acres residents.
