South of Downtown Winston-Salem is the Ashford subdivision. Ashford is a collection of streets accessible only from Summerset Drive by turning north on to Ashford Court.
Winston-Salem neighborhoods are designed to be safe, quiet, and great places to enjoy the outdoors, and Ashford reflects those qualities. The only destination available from Ashford Court is the residential part of the subdivision while through traffic stays on Summerset Drive. There is a lot of green space in front yards, and the trees are mature, with standing groves of pine and hardwoods surrounding the neighborhood. The streets are shady, and kids playing or families out for a stroll are commonly part of the landscape.
This quiet neighborhood evokes an atmosphere of country living although Ashford is in a fast-growing metropolis that is home to more than twenty universities and hundreds of technical and research firms. Commuting to work anywhere in the Piedmont Triad area of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point is easy thanks to access to major roads and arterial streets.
North Carolina is a showcase for golf, and residents of Ashford have easy access to the courses. Tanglewood Park Golf Course, consistently named one of the best and most beautiful municipal courses in the United States, is a destination for golfers from around the country and just a short drive from Ashford. Oak Valley Golf Course, next to Tanglewood Park, is the only Arnold Palmer-designed course in the area and attracts golfers from across the country to play a course designed to challenge and delight golfers of all skill levels. For residents interested in a full-service country club environment, the Forsythe Country Club offers social events, swimming, tennis, fine dining, and one of the most beautiful golf courses in the country.
