The spacious lots and comfortable brick houses in Pine Valley West are centrally located between downtown Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. The wide streets of Pine Valley West are popular with walkers and cyclists, as is quick access to U.S. 17, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and some of the city’s biggest business centers. The neighborhood is in ZIP code 28412.

Wilmington’s mild weather promotes an active lifestyle, and nearby Wrightsville Beach is popular year-round. The beach’s surf and wide sand draw sunbathers, kayakers, swimmers, and surfers, and many head to Johnnie Mercer’s Pier or another popular beach bar or restaurant after a day in the sun. The Loop, a 2.45-mile trail around Wrightsville Beach Park, is often filled with walkers and joggers.

In the spring, Wilmington is covered with azalea blooms, and thousands visit the city for the annual North Carolina Azalea Festival. National artists headline the festival’s concerts, and Wilmington’s downtown hosts a parade and two-day street festival. Other annual citywide festivals include the Cucalorus Film Festival, which features independent films, and the Greek Festival at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.

Often called Hollywood East, Wilmington is frequented by celebrities who are filming television shows and movies. The city was the setting for the long-running television shows “Dawson’s Creek” and “One Tree Hill,” and residents can often watch filming or work as extras.

UNCW is less than 10 minutes north of Pine Valley West. The college is nationally known for its marine biology and creative writing programs, and the beach-going student body lends to a laid-back atmosphere in the city. Nearby Cape Fear Community College is one of the largest two-year colleges in North Carolina with more than 60 technical degree programs.
