Walnut Avenue is a neighborhood in Concord, North Carolina, consisting primarily of a single street by the same name east of Central Drive Northwest. It is just south of Interstate 85 and west of U.S. Highways 29 and 601.
The Walnut Avenue neighborhood is made up of less than two dozen single-family homes. The yards are fairly spacious and in true North Carolina fashion, offer plenty of shade trees. Adjacent wooded areas make this scenic community feel somewhat secluded, despite its location just minutes from the interstate.
Walnut Avenue is convenient to many amenities and attractions. The Carolina Mall is less than a half-mile to the east, on the other side of Highways 29 and 601. This indoor retail complex offers a variety of shops and eateries, as well as a movie theater. Anchor stores include a JCPenney and Sears. Another nearby retail center, Cloverleaf Shopping Center, is situated to the north, on the other side of the interstate.
Walnut Avenue residents also enjoy easy access to The Carolinas Medical Center Northeast, on the other side of the highway, adjacent to the mall. The Walnut Avenue community is an ideal neighborhood for health care workers or individuals who take peace of mind from living near a medical facility.
Less than two miles west of Walnut Avenue is North Cabarrus Park. Currently much of the parkland is undeveloped, but there are two basketball courts, two playgrounds, a sand volleyball court, a pond, and plenty of open space for games, sports, and picnicking. More affluent residents of Walnut Avenue may belong to the Cabarrus Country Club, which is within five miles southwest of the neighborhood.
