The Village at Parkside neighborhood in Gastonia, North Carolina is a master planned community. The development, south of downtown Gastonia, is scheduled to include a town center and is planned with a variety of mixed housing. The neighborhood is accessible from Neil Hawkins Road and is surrounded by a large wooded area.
The Martha Rivers Park on Neil Hawkins Road is considered the best park in the area with four ball fields, four soccer fields, two picnic shelters, a beach volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. Parents can walk the three miles of walkways while the children play in the multistory wooden play structure that resembles a fort. It has interconnecting ramps and walkways with swings, slides, and a sand pit.
Robinswood Crossing Shopping Center is the place for shopping and dining although downtown Gastonia is less than five miles away and provides residents with additional shopping and dining. The area also supports three malls. Westfield Eastridge is a large regional mall, Franklin Square has the Wal-Mart, and the Shops @ Gaston contains more nationwide chain stores.
Gastonia boasts of more than thirty places to fish, so residents are never far from an opportunity. Golfing is nearby at the Gastonia Country Club, five miles to the south and next to the Gastonia Municipal Airport. Equally close is the Gastonia Municipal Golf Course and the Gastonia National Golf Course.
The largest recreational area in Gastonia is Crowder’s Mountain State Park. The park has a nine acre lake where visitors can canoe or fish. Camping, hiking, and rock climbing are favorite activities. Residents can enjoy a picnic lunch after hiking the many trails.
