The Short Street neighborhood is a middle-class bedroom community in Concord, North Carolina. The neighborhood is located near Old Charlotte Road Southwest, Warren C. Coleman Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard Southwest.
Short Street is close to highways 29, 49 and 601. Its location is within commuting distance to the cities of Charlotte and Kannapolis. The Rider Transit System serves the community and makes public transit a great option for commuters. Private air travel can be arranged through the Concord Regional Airport. Amtrak stations are close by in Charlotte and Kannapolis.
The Charlotte Douglas International Airport is not far. With destinations to major United States cities and the world, the airport serves over 32 million travelers a year. The airport is the hub of Charlotte’s Lowe’s Motor Speedway, where NASCAR drivers, teams, race shops, and fans follow the activities of one of the most well known NASCAR stock car racing tracks.
Short Street is known for its apartment buildings and a mix of old and new houses. Residents are young couples and families. Short Street is a residential area that is close to public and private schools, churches and parks, including the the Marvin Caldwell Park. The 24-acre park includes facilities for many family-friendly activities like picnicking and team sports. The park also boasts the Dan Pharr Community Building and the Robert Mathis Amphitheater for community use.
The Dog Park is the only off-leash dog park in Concord.
The Cabarrus Country Club, a public golf course, is also close to the neighborhood. Golf architect George W. Cobb designed the 18-hole golf course. Cobb, who died in 1986, designed golf courses that are popular with the PGA tour. His classic designs include the Quail Hollow Golf Club, Augusta National Golf Club and Green Island Country Club. Residents and tourists will appreciate playing on a golf course designed for professional golfers.
