Although Oakland Heights has less than three acres, it contains a specially designed court to accommodate team sports from soccer to football. Basketball courts, playgrounds, and picnic tables complete the family-friendly park.
High Rock Lake is close to Oakland. The lake is a popular destination for fishing and draws bass anglers from all over the United States. It is host to bass tournaments, including the championship Bassmasters Classic. In addition to being a site for water sports, the lake has 365 miles of shoreline for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, biking, and camping.
The lake also has designated nature preserves. Eagle Point Nature Preserve is a 200-acre property mostly accessible on foot. Birders and nature enthusiasts enjoy the sights and sounds in the habitats along the three trails that wind through the preserve. Oak forest, floodplain forest, and the lake attract birds and waterfowl, but the highlight of the hike are sightings of bald eagles and osprey. These birds of prey are seen near the trails by the lake.
