Providence Park is one of Charlotte’s older neighborhoods, where traditionally wealthy families built some of the city’s original trophy homes and then upgraded them during the late 1970s and mid-1980s banking boom. Mature trees line the narrow, winding streets, and richly landscaped yards stretch back from carefully tended sidewalks. Homes are red brick or overlaid with stone for a traditional, stately appearance, or occasionally white with real wood siding, dark shutters and columns.

Residents mostly work for Charlotte’s major banks and hospitals, or for Duke Energy. Median income in Providence Park is $20,000 more than the Charlotte average. The Junior League of Charlotte has a very active base in the Providence Park community. Young professional societies and charities draw heavily on residents’ time.

The boundaries of Providence Park are well-defined. The neighborhood lies wholly within the 28111 zip code. The four main thoroughfares that frame the neighborhood are Randolph Road, South Sharon Amity Road, Providence Road (marked on some maps as Highway 16), and Sardis Road. The up-and-coming Providence Village Shopping Center is located wholly within this zone, and is the area’s primary boutique destination, though the neighboring Cotswold Shopping center is also popular.

Around 6 PM the streets flood with joggers and dog walkers as people return from work. Neighbors chat and catch up, showing the friendly nature of this upscale but hospitable neighborhood.
