Amherst, NY Apartments for Rent

Roughly 10,000 years ago, glaciers helped design some of the most beautiful features in the country — Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes. Nestled in the heart of the emerald green grass, tall trees, and amazing falls and lakes is the city of Amherst.

When you rent an apartment in Amherst, you’ll want to explore the beautiful scenery and discover the parks and recreation areas that are sure to become your favorite destinations. Start with Amherst State Park – as far as state parks go, this is a small one at just 77 acres. But this is a gorgeous location next to Ellicott Creek that features nature trails that are perfect for walking, jogging, and biking.

Amherst is more than just great scenery. This is the largest suburb of Buffalo and includes the village of Williamsville as well as several hamlets. The University of Buffalo has a campus here, and there are satellite campuses for Bryant, Stratton, and Daemen colleges. Medaille College has a graduate campus in Amherst.

The first settler in the area was John Thompson. In 1799, he built a tavern. Soon after, the village of Williamsville began to take shape, and many of the early buildings are still located in the historic downtown area of the village.

If you love a winter wonderland, you’ll love living in an Amherst apartment – it is among the top 10 cities in average yearly snowfall, making it an ideal location for winter sports, such as ice skating and snowshoeing.

When it is a little warmer, be sure to visit Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, an open-air museum that covers 35 acres and includes 12 historic buildings. This is a living history museum, with volunteers dressed in period costumes working in the kitchen of the Elliot House, which features a 19th-century stove, and a blacksmith shop that offers an annual training school.

From your new apartment in Amherst, you’ll enjoy nearby attractions such as Niagara Falls, located just 16 miles away, as well as Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and the historic sites along the Erie Canal.
