T Edison School is a neighborhood in the Tonawanda, New York, community. Close to the Niagara River and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge to Canada, it is also just 15 minutes to downtown Buffalo and the University of Buffalo North Campus, making it a popular residential area for commuters and students.
Thomas Edison Elementary School is in the neighborhood for families with children. Residents can shop at the Boulevard Mall shopping center and at multiple local service businesses and restaurants. Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority with buses, railcars, trolleys, and vans has 6 “stop and ride” locations in Tonawanda providing commuters access to many areas of Buffalo.
The young and the young-at-heart will enjoy visiting the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, located in North Tonawanda, New York. The building itself is listed on the National Registers of Historic Sites. The entire first floor of the building has exhibits and demonstrations about the operations of the factory. The museum exhibits the history and growth of the Herschell Companies, with wood carving demonstrations, examples of horse carvings, horses being restored and the production process for the band organ roll. Two antique carousels are in the facility. Next to the museum is a walking/bike trail which follows the former railroad right-of-way and leads to the Riviera Theater and the banks of the Erie Canal.
Tonawanda hugs the banks of the Erie Canal and the Niagara River and has preserved the shoreline with a series of parks, including Mayors Park, Gateway Park, North Tonawanda Botanical Gardens, Niagara River Park, Fisherman’s Park, Gratwick-Riverside Park, and Boathouse Park. These lovely sites have unrestricted views of the river with grassy areas, boat launch sites, and picnic tables.
