Roughly 10,000 years ago, glaciers helped design some of the most beautiful features in the country — Niagara Falls and the Great Lakes. Nestled in the heart of the emerald green grass, tall trees, and amazing falls and lakes is the city of Amherst.
The first settler in the area was John Thompson. In 1799, he built a tavern. Soon after, the village of Williamsville began to take shape, and many of the early buildings are still located in the historic downtown area of the village.
Today, Amherst is experiencing a boom of sorts, with job growth and new employment opportunities. The State University of New York (SUNY) has a campus in Amherst, and the Medaille College has its graduate campus here.
Located seven miles north of Buffalo, 16 miles southwest of Niagara Falls, and between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, Amherst is a beautiful and busy apartment rental location.
