Secaucus is located along the Hackensack River on the south side of Hackensack, New Jersey. Secaucus is a beautiful town with more than 20 parks, a recreation center, a town ice rink, and an indoor swim center. Secaucus was once part of the oldest settlement in New Jersey, Bergen, which was established in 1660. At the time, it was an island called “Sikakes.”
As you search for apartments in Secaucus, keep in mind that the town features several distinct districts. Snake Hill (or Laurel Hill) features a rock hill along the river, formed about 150 million years ago by a volcano. Colonists referred to the rock formation as “snake hill” due to the large population of snakes that called the hill home. Other districts include Secaucus Junction, Harmon Meadows, North End, Riverbend, County Avenue, and Harmon Meadows.
