Edgewater is located in New Jersey’s popular Bergen County and is considered part of the New York City metro area. The county has the fourth-highest per capita income in the state and a park system that covers nearly 9,000 acres. The county was the first European settlement in present-day New Jersey, with the first settlers arriving in the early 1660s. Edgewater itself features several historic locations, including the Binghamton Ferry, a retired ferry that operated from 1905 to 1967. The Edgewater Public Library, built in 1915, is one of the original Carnegie Libraries and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

When you rent your Edgewater apartment, you may think your eyes are playing tricks on you when you look up and see small, bright green parrots perched in the trees. The Edgewater Parrots number around 200-230 and are often seen in Memorial Park. Although nobody knows for sure how the parrots came to live in the borough, some believe they escaped from a damaged crate at John F. Kennedy Airport during the 1960s.

Edgewater is a popular location because of its amazing views, its proximity to Manhattan, and its great public transit system. And although Edgewater’s great shopping plazas, restaurants, and stores will keep you busy, New York’s famous nightlife is a short bus ride or ferry ride away.
