Henderson, Nevada is surrounded by fun: Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the Hoover Dam are to the east, Las Vegas to the northwest, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is to the west, and Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area is to the south.

Henderson is located in the heart of the Mojave Desert and is surrounded by mountains. The closest are the McCullough Range, located on Henderson’s north side. These gentle slopes were created by volcanoes and are composed mostly of metamorphic rock. Black Mountain is the tallest peak and features black lava cliffs on the mountain’s eastern side. Black Mountain is a popular hiking destination year-round.

When you rent an apartment in Henderson, you get it all: the mountain ranges, the desert landscape, the fantastic Lake Mead, and the bright neon lights of the Las Vegas Strip. You’re also getting an award-winning community. Henderson was named the nation’s second-safest city by Forbes Magazine in 2011. It was named one of America’s best cities by Bloomberg, and in 2014, the FBI Uniform Crime Report listed Henderson as one of the nation’s safest cities.

Henderson’s fantastic bike paths, walking trails, dog parks, and splash pads are considered part of its parks system, which features 60 parks ranging from open green space to elaborate playgrounds. And if you enjoy bicycling, Henderson contains more than 120 miles of trails, including the River Mountains Loop Trail, named the “Best Bike Ride” (Desert Companion). If you prefer jogging, Pittman Wash Trail was named the “Best Running Trail” in 2013.

If you are moving to a Henderson apartment with a pet, rest assured that this is a very pet-friendly city. There are 16 dog parks to choose from, and several more are in the planning stages. Arroyo Grande Sports Complex and Pittman Wash Trail has a dog park with agility elements. This 56-acre park also features ball fields, picnic shelters, bicycle terrain amenities, horseshoe pits, disc golf, and a playground for children.

But the place you’ll probably spend the most time exploring is just outside of Henderson – Lake Mead National Recreation Area! This popular destination will quickly become a favorite once you move to an apartment in Henderson. There’s boating, fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, or just taking some truly spectacular photographs.

Red Rock Canyon is another fantastic destination, offering 195,819 acres to explore. This area is fantastic for mountain climbing, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, OHV riding, and camping, The park also features a 13-mile scenic drive and a visitor’s center.

Of course, Henderson has some amazing destinations, as well. This is a beautiful city filled with public art, museums, and shopping districts. The Artisan Booze District is exactly what it sounds like – a district filled with award-winning, locally-crafted beer, wine and spirits. Some of the hotspots in this district include Vegas Brewing Company, Bad Beat Brewing and CrafHaus Brewery.

Since you are now living in the heart of the Mojave Desert, you may want to cool off. Henderson, in addition to several splash pads and swimming pools available at local parks (not to mention your Henderson apartment swimming pool, if your community has one), is home to Cowabunga Bay Water Park. This park features a lazy river, a giant raft slide, the thrilling Wild Surf giant slide, a wave pool, and Good Vibrations, a 600-foot-long slide with rebound chambers.

There’s even more to Henderson: Springs Preserve, Valley of Fire State Park (the oldest state park in Nevada), Historic Water Street, the Mob Museum, and of course the nearby Las Vegas Strip with all of its casinos, shows, special events, restaurants, and shops. If all of that isn’t enough, drive over to the Hoover Dam, located on the Colorado River’s Black Canyon. The dam, built from 1931-36, rises 726 feet from the river below. There’s quite a lot waiting for you — start searching for apartments in Henderson so you can start enjoying this wonderful city.
