The Blue River can date its history back to the late 1700s when trapping was an important way of life in the area. In the latter 1800s, factories took the place of trapping, and the area now known as the Blue Valley Area was called Centropolis. Once a settlement, Centropolis was renamed after becoming part of Kansas City.
This once up-and-coming area has since been sectioned into smaller neighborhoods. Just beyond the southeast corner of West Blue Valley is Blue Valley Park, which contains a portion of the Old Santa Fe Trail.
