Independence Plaza is a neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri. The neighborhood is part of the 64124 and 64127 zip codes and located to the south of Independence Avenue, north of Interstate 70, east of Brooklyn Avenue, and west of Benton Boulevard. Homes in the area are quite a bit older with the large majority built before 1960 providing a special character to the neighborhood. Most of the homes here are also lived in by the actual owner.
Part of Independence Plaza is a small neighborhood park. This part while small has several different amenities that get regular use throughout the year. The park has tennis courts, a baseball field, sand volleyball, and a playground. Another good area park is directly to the north where North Terrace Park can be found. This park lacks many amenities but has considerable forested area and a number of great trails. Many walkers, runners, and cyclists like the area because it has many miles of path to help add distance to their workouts.
Next to North Terrace Park off of Gladstone Boulevard is the Kansas City Museum. This large museum is a turn of the century home that has been wonderfully restored to showcase the history of the Kansas City area in a phenomenal manner. The home is filled with many pictures, lots of art, and a variety of exhibits that really bring the history of the area to life.
For entertainment, there’s no better destination than a short drive to the west just off of Interstate 670 to the Sprint Center. This impressive venue is not only massive but is an important host to the many different concerts, shows, and sporting events that come to the city throughout the year. It is also going to be the future home of the Kansas City Command, a new Arena Football League team.
