Lots of nearby land is set aside from the preservation of nature and the sanctuary of local wildlife. The Plowboy Bend Conservation Area and Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area are within walking distance to the left of West Lawn. Also close by is the Marlon Bottoms Conservation Area, Rocky Fork Lakes Conservation Area, Davisdale Conservation Area, and Overton Bottoms Conservation Area.

Cooper’s Landing Campgrounds and Marina is under a half-mile east of the neighborhood. It offers a full service river port, a general store, a lodge, an on-site Thai restaurant, a stop on Katy Trail, an entertainment center, and campgrounds. Rock Bridge State Park is east of the West Lawn. It has a cave, a boardwalk, a 750-acre wildlife preserve, a picnic pavilion, and 25 miles of trails for various uses, such as hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian riding.

Although the community is primarily residential, there are several popular restaurants nearby. Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, which is often acclaimed for having the best sandwiches in Columbia, is only a few miles to its northeast. Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Hardee’s, Arby’s, and Wise Guys Pizza are all within a ten-mile radius.

West Lawn is a very family-friendly community and many high quality private and public schools are within easy driving distance. Acton School, which is noted for high academic standards, is only a few miles to its south, as is Pauley School and Jamestown High School. Prospect School and Warren School are within a five-mile radius to its north.
