One of the fastest-growing counties in the nation, Scott County is home to many dynamic cities, including its county seat, Shakopee. Located 23 miles from Minneapolis Minnesota on the Mississippi River, Shakopee dates to 1857.
Recreation in Shakopee includes the historic Murphy’s Landing, an 88-acre living history museum on the Minnesota River. Valleyfair Amusement Park features rides, attractions, and roller coasters. SandVenture Aquatic Park has a sand-bottom chlorinated pool, a sand beach, and a 300-foot water slide.
Canterbury Park Racetrack features live racing, simulcast racing, and a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week card club. Canterbury Park also hosts the Midwest’s largest craft show, snowmobile racing, and other events.
Shakopee has over 490 acres of developed parks and 244 acres of open green space. The parks include outdoor skating facilities, warming houses, and 10 miles of trails. Every summer, the city celebrates Dan Patch Days, named after the legendary horse. The Renaissance Festival is another popular event. Mystic Lake Casino is close to Shakopee, a resort with gaming, a hotel, golf, restaurants, and more.
With a busy downtown area, a thriving business park, six elementary schools and a new high school in the works, Shakopee is a busy community with a lot to offer new residents.
