Moorhead, MN Apartments for Rent

Situated between Dakota prairies to the west and the lakes of Minnesota to the east, Moorhead, Minnesota is known as by its residents and neighborhoods as a “gate city.” However, this close-knit community is much more than the half-way point between two destinations. Known for its rich heritage and the numerous educational institutions that comprise the city, Moorhead is a model Midwestern city for apartment renting.

Moorhead is the home of five colleges and universities, including Concordia College, Minnesota State University at Moorhead, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, Globe University/Minnesota School of Business, and Rasmussen College. Educational institutions serve as major area employers in Moorhead with Moorhead Area Public Schools as the city’s top employer, followed closely by Minnesota State University and Concordia College. Other top employers include Eventide Company, American Crystal Sugar Company, and Moorhead Electric.

Many of Moorhead’s residents can trace their ancestry back to European origins, specifically citing Norwegian, German, and Swedish roots. European heritage has had quite an effective on the Moorhead community, as the city is home to a Norwegian Stave Church and the Hjemkomst Viking Ship. The ship is a replica built by Robert Asp in the 1970s. Asp was a Moorhead School guidance counselor, and shortly after his death, his children sailed the ship to Norway. Today, the ship is held at the Hjemkomst Center, which hosts several events throughout the year, including the Scandinavian Hjemkomst Festival.

Other Moorhead attractions include the Rourke Art Galley and the Rourke Art Museum, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the Red River, where scenic pontoon rides are offered.
