Longfellow is a neighborhood in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The neighborhood is part of the 55404 and 55406 zip codes and located south of 24th Street, north of 35th Street, east of Hiawatha Avenue and west of 38th Avenue. The area is quite a bit older than many others in Minneapolis with the large majority of the homes having been built before 1940. Most of these homes are detached single-family, owner-occupied dwellings.
There are numerous activities in the Longfellow area, with recreation being quite easy to find with many different parks located in the general area. One of the best is located a little over a mile to the west off of 15th Avenue. While there are parks that are closer, Powderhorn Lake Park has some of the best amenities in the area. The park overlooks Powderhorn Lake providing excellent views. There are four baseball fields, multiple purpose fields, numerous tennis courts, playgrounds and the Powderhorn Park Skating Rink which is used heavily during the winter months. The park also has numerous paths that are used by walkers, runners and skaters.
About a mile to the north different major entertainment venues can be found. One of the biggest and most popular is the Hubert M Humphrey Metrodome. The metrodome is known for drawing in major musical acts, shows, events and the Monster Truck events.
Just north of the Metrodome is a somewhat unique museum, the Mill City Museum. This museum was built into the ruins of an old flour mill. The museum tells the history of the area, the Mississippi River, and of the flour industry. The museum has many different events throughout the year and is a popular destination for school field trips.
