A vibrant green landscape, several nearby lakes, prairies, dense forests — Elk River is set in a beautiful part of rural Minnesota on the confluence of the Elk and Mississippi Rivers. It is a great little city with plenty to offer, located just 28 miles northwest of Minneapolis and 35 miles southeast of St. Cloud.
What began in 1849 as a small Minnesota Territory outpost has grown into a major suburban community. The North Star Commuter Rail Line runs from Elk River to Minneapolis. Elk River has 44 parks on over 900 acres, including Woodland Trails Park, a 300-acre park with bike trails, hiking, cross-country skiing, and an Olympic biathlon training course.
The Farmer’s Market runs from June through September and features produce from local farmers, flowers, coffee, cider, and many other great finds. The Riverfront Concert Series is a summer music series featuring rock, rhythm and blues, folk, and country bands.
