Wright Patterson Air Force Base Area Apartment Housing(hide military information)
It only makes sense that the birthplace of aviation – Dayton, Ohio – is home to the nation’s largest Air Force base. The Wright brothers once stood where that base is now and made some of their first attempts at flight – this was their testing ground. Of course, the base is named for the aviation pioneers: Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The base, which dates back to 1917, is one of the largest and most diverse bases in the Air Force. It is the headquarters of the Air Force Materiel Command and it is home the 88th Air Base Wing. The base contains a USAF medical center, the National Museum of the United States Air Force, and the Air Force Institute of Technology. The base also contains two important archaeological sites.
Wright-Patterson AFB is located in a busy area that also contains Wright University, the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historic Park and the Huffman Prairie Flying Field and Interpretive Center. This popular tourist destination is a great place to find an apartment near Wright-Patterson AFB. Look in Dayton’s northeastern neighborhoods such as Huber Heights, Fairborn, Holiday Valley, and Riverside. The Mad River Recreation Trail is a terrific riverside trail for walking or bicycling around the area. Downtown Dayton’s shops, restaurants, and nightlife are less than 10 miles from the base.
