Located roughly halfway between Trenton and Toms River, Fort Dix was built in 1917. In 2009, consolidation with neighboring Air Force and Navy facilities led to a name change – Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. It is still commonly referred to as Fort Dix. The base is home to the USAF 87th Air Base Wing. Fort Dix Federal Correctional Institution and the Atlantic Strike Team are also located on the base.
Fort Dix is roughly 15 miles southeast of Trenton and 15 miles west of Toms River. Both cities are ideal for commuting, but to find an apartment close to Fort Dix, look in Browns Mills, Pemberton Township, North Hanover Township, Cookstown, Plumsted Township, Wrightstown, Manchester Township, Leisure Knoll, and Whiting.
