With its idyllic, tree-lined streets and well-preserved homes, Piety Corner is considered an upscale Waltham neighborhood. The oldest neighborhood in Waltham, Piety Corner was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. In the town’s early history, three ministers of different churches all lived in the town at the same time, leading to the name Piety Corner. Today two churches still sit on opposite corners at the intersection of the neighborhood’s main streets.
House designs in Piety Corner include sprawling ranch-style residences built in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as Colonial homes constructed from the 1940s to today. Some condominium complexes can also be found in the area. Most of the community is residential, although shops, churches, and restaurants fill the neighborhood’s downtown intersection of Lexington Street and Bacon Street.
Piety Corner encompasses zip code 02451 and is bounded by Interstate 95 and Totten Pond Road to the West, Bacon Street to the north, Forest Street to the east, and Beaver and Totten Pond Road to the south.
Of the many appealing aspects of Piety Corner is the Cambridge Reservoir Lake, which sits on the western outskirts of the community. This scenic lake is said to be twice the size of Walden Pond, and offers hiking and fishing opportunities.
Also nearby is Prospect Hill Park which features panoramic views of downtown Boston. There are hiking trails, and picnic benches at the park as well.
Nearby educational institutions include Bentley College, which sits to the east of Piety Corner. Bently is a business school that combines liberal arts, business, and information technology. Brandeis University, a research university dedicated to the advancement of the arts; humanities; and social, physical, and natural sciences, is also nearby.
