Located near the shores of Lake Quinsigamond and bordered by the lush forest of Perkins Farm, the community of Grafton Hill gives residents a lot to see and do. Homes along the eastern border of the community have lake and forest views.
Grafton Hill is located in ZIP code 01604. The community includes such streets as Grafton, Hamilton, Plantation, and Shrewsbury streets, the latter of which is unofficially known as Worcester’s “Restaurant Row.” Interstate 290 runs to the west and north of the neighborhood.
A main attraction for residents of Grafton Hill is Lake Quinsigamond. This 772-acre, 4-mile-long lake has eight islands — most of which are privately owned. The largest island, known as Drake, is owned by the state. Lake Quinsigamond is home to Regatta Point and Lake Park, the former of which features fishing, sailing, swimming, and picnicking. Lake Park has a picnic area, tennis courts, and a swimming beach.
Lake Quinsigamond is internationally known for rowing. Its 2,000-meter rowing course is considered one of the best. Competitive rowing had its start on the lake in 1857, and by 1952, the lake hosted the National Olympic rowing trials. In 2005, the Quinsigamond Rowing Association held the U.S. Rowing Masters Championship. Many regattas, including the New England Rowing Championships, are also held on the lake.
Perkins Farm lies within Grafton Hill. This 80-acre, heavily forested conservation area has six trails that wind throughout the forest, exploring a variety of ecosystems, including vernal pools, oak habitats, and glacial boulders. Guided field trips of the farm can be arranged through the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
