Arlington Center is just that, the center of the town of Arlington, Massachusetts which is a Boston suburb bordered by the towns of Medford, Somerville, Cambridge, Winchester, Belmont, and Lexington. It is an affordable suburb. The Center is also the historic part of town. Arlington Center had an active role in the War of Independence, and some of the worst fighting early in the war took place here in Arlington. Massachusetts Avenue is the main artery that connects Boston with Lexington and Concord, and this is the route the British took against the colonists.

There is no real definition to the border of Arlington Center but it runs roughly from School Street in the west to Sky Pond in the east and north to Summer Street Route 2A, and Gray Street in the south. Arlington Center is the birthplace of one of America’s most iconic figures, Uncle Sam, who was really Samuel Wilson.

Spy Pond Park is a favorite destination for people of all ages in Arlington Center. It has paths for jogging and is connected to The Minuteman Bikeway, running east of the park. There is a children’s playground in the park and a boat ramp. On the north side of Spy Pond, there is a Little League baseball field, a soccer field, and tennis courts.

The Cyrus Dallin Museum is one of the gems of Arlington Center; Cyrus Dallin was a sculptor who worked in Arlington. The Jason Russell House is one of the most historic houses in town and still has the bullet holes to prove its importance in the War for Independence.

Arlington is in the process of redesigning Massachusetts Avenue to make it more people friendly. Walking areas and outdoor dining are in the plans. There are independent stores and restaurants in the area. There is no T station in Arlington, and the closest is Alewife in Cambridge. However, there is MBTA bus service.
