Encompassing the 71118 zip code area in Caddo County, this community is just over 12 miles from the heart of the downtown area. It is roughly bordered by U.S. Highway 171 and Mansfield Road on the west, Williamson Way on the south, and Linwood Avenue on the east. On the north, it extends to LA Highway 3132 and the nearby railroad tracks.

Much of the Hyde Park, Brookwood, Southern Hills community is residential, but there are several commercial areas here, as well. The residential areas of this neighborhood are mostly devoted to single-family homes on well-shaded lots.

Several public and private golf courses are situated a few miles west of this community, as is the Shreveport Regional Airport.
