City Park is a New Orleans, Louisiana neighborhood that includes zip codes 70119 and 70124. The population is about 3,000 people in an area of approximately 2.85 square miles. Homes in the area are generally priced in the range of about $200,000 to $500,000, with the majority being single-family dwellings.
Many homes are relatively sizable in the native historic style, so some have been remodeled into condos or town homes. Though this vicinity did sustain some considerable flood damage during Hurricane Katrina, a number of these homes escaped the most severe effects.
The namesake of this neighborhood is literally City Park itself, one of the oldest city parks in the United States, as well as one of the largest. The first of its 1,300 acres was established in 1854. Today, its impressive natural beauty still includes a large collection of mature live oak trees, some of which date back more than 600 years. City Park’s close proximity to Lake Pontchartrain allows for numerous natural waterways throughout the vicinity.
City Park has an abundance of family-oriented activities. The New Orleans Museum of Art is located here, along with the New Orleans Botanical Garden and the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. These are in addition to its many walking trails, golf and other outdoor attractions. Though the full recovery process from Hurricane Katrina may not yet be finished, a large part is done, and it is anticipated to be even better than ever before when it is fully completed.
Pan American Stadium is yet another of City Park’s attractions. Home to the New Orleans Jesters, this stadium offers a venue for a bounty of local sporting events. Renovated in 2008, the stadium now includes new state-of-the-art features.
Robert E. Lee Boulevard, Wisner Boulevard, and Orleans Avenue are the boundaries of this neighborhood, with a small sector located to the south of City Park Avenue.
