Shelbyville Apartments for Rent
Known as the Saddlebred Capital of the World, Shelbyville is everything you want from the Blue Grass State – horse shows, beautiful scenery, friendly neighbors, and the charm of a historic city. Founded in 1792 and named for Isaac Shelby, the first governor of Kentucky, Shelbyville is located between Louisville and Lexington.
The Shelbyville Horse Show is a major event held annually at the Shelby County Fairgrounds, but after renting a Shelbyville apartment, you won’t have to wait to admire the area’s horses — horse farm tours feature historic farms located in the area.
In addition to horse farms, Shelbyville is also famous for chicken – Colonel Sanders lived in Shelbyville from 1959 until his death in 1980. After selling Kentucky Fried Chicken, the company was moved. Soon after, Colonel Sanders created the Claudia Sanders Dinner House, a restaurant named for his wife. This beautiful location includes the Dinner House and the 125-year-old Blackwood Hall, where Colonel Sanders lived. In addition to great food, visitors can visit the gift shop and the Saddlebred Lounge.
Vineyards also dot the rolling hills of Shelbyville, which is home to several wineries. Residents and visitors enjoy wine tours, which includes Talon Winery, Heaven Hill Distilleries Bourbon Heritage Center, Jim Beam American Outpost, the Smith-Berry Winery, and Maker’s Mark.
Shoppers will appreciate the many antique stores in Shelbyville, as well as several boutiques and shopping plazas. The Shelby County Flea Market, held in neighboring Simpsonville, is one of the longest-running flea markets in the area. It includes six buildings, about 450 booths, live music, entertainment, and a food court.
