Louisville Kentucky’s South Side neighborhood encompasses a large area just outside the city’s main business center and downtown area. The Kentucky Turnpike (Interstate 65) spans the length of South Side, while both the Henry Watterson Expressway (Interstate 264) and the Gene Snyder Freeway (Interstate 265) span its width.

Iroquois Park lies at the westernmost point of South Side. Scenic views are just one of the abundant attractions here. Sportsman are attracted to this park for golfing, archery, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and catch-and-release fishing. The park’s amphitheater seats 2,407 people, and is a popular draw for concerts and live performances.

The Louisville International Airport is also within the boundaries of South Side. The 1,200-acre airport accommodates millions of passengers each year. In addition, it is also home to the Kentucky Air National Guard and UPS.

The Louisville Zoo sits near the northern boundary of South Side. This zoo houses more than 1,300 animals, and has gained international recognition for a number of its achievements. The zoo also offers adventurous types a five-story high and 350 foot long zip line, as well as the Sky Trail Adventure Course.

Residential areas are also abundant throughout South Side. Fern Creek sits at the easternmost point, not far from the Outer Loop Plaza and Highland Park. The southernmost point of South Side is a small sector between Pioneer Village and Hebron Estates.

Northeast of this point is McNeely Lake Park, one of the largest parks in the metro system. The park contains a 46 acre lake for fishing and boating.
