The Chesney Park Neighborhood is located to the south of downtown Topeka, Kansas. Chesney Park is bordered on the west by Washburn University. Most of the neighborhood is residential, but the eastern end is dominated by the Harvest Church of Topeka, The Capitol Plaza Hotel, and the Kansas Expocentre. The tree-filled Chesney Park is in the center of the residential section of the neighborhood. The homes are older one and two-story dwellings and sit on tree-lined streets. The northern shore of the Kansas River lies just to the south of Chesney Park.
Some of the schools serving the population in and around Chesney Park are Most Pure Heart of Mary School, Topeka High School, Topeka West High School, and Lowman Hill Elementary School. Also nearby is Kidlink Preschool and Childcare Center.
Residents of Chesney Park are just minutes away from a world class entertainment venue – the Kansas Expocentre. Throughout the year, exhibitions, family shows, concerts, and Equine/Livestock events area held here. The Expocentre is also the home of the Topeka Roadrunners NAHL hockey team.
One of the many museums in and around Topeka is the Combat Air Museum. It is located at Forbes Field, a joint civilian-military airport just six miles south of Topeka. Visitors here will also get a chance to see Air Force fighter aircraft, Air National Guard troop transports, and helicopters fly around the area regularly.
Another popular point of interest in Topeka is the Kansas State Capitol, which features a portrait of John Brown, the abolitionist who led a raid on Harpers Ferry, Virginia prior to the Civil War.
