In 1845, a farmer named James Jordan settled the area originally named Valley Junction, now West Des Moines, Iowa. The Jordan House, built in 1851, is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the oldest structure in West Des Moines and was a stopover on the Underground Railroad. The museum is open for tours May to September.
