McKinley School Columbus Park Apartments for Rent

McKinley School/Columbus Park neighborhood lies south of the confluence of the Raccoon and Des Moines Rivers, which forms the northern boundary. It is bound on the east by southeast 14th Street and on the west by southwest 2nd Street. It is an area of small, older homes and open areas where shade trees line sidewalks. Small, local eateries are scattered through the neighborhood, with national fast-food restaurants to the south.

Parks and popular attractions surround the neighborhood. Six bridges make traveling to other parts of the city quite convenient. The Des Moines Trail runs along the western boundary, following southwest 2nd Street. The trail extends for miles through the city of Des Moines and joins other trails in the system.

Less than a mile west is Mac Rae Park, great for summer picnics and winter ice skating. There are nice paved trails in this gently rolling terrain, an enclosed shelter, and tennis courts.

The gem of Des Moines parks is only a bit farther east, Gray’s Lake. Beaches, boat ramps and boat rentals, formal gardens, trails, shelters, and athletic courts make this a popular year-round destination. There is a dog park at Raccoon River Park, a few miles farther west.

More than a half-dozen golf courses, both public and private, are within a 15-minute drive. Disc golf fans are in luck with challenging Ewing Park’s 18-hole course.

Shopping centers are close to the neighborhood, too. A bit south is Southridge Mall and a bit west is Jordan Creek Town Center. Several Wal-Mart SuperCenters can be found along major interstates.

Favorite historical sites and cultural attractions are just north. The Des Moines Art Center, Historic East Village, Sherman Hill, and the Civic Center are within two miles. Several educational institutions are close by, including the AIB College of Business.
