Meredith Apartments for Rent(hide neighborhood information)
The residents in Des Moines Meredith neighborhood enjoy a suburban lifestyle with all the amenities of the city. Merle Hay Mall sets just outside the western boundary of the neighborhood. Shoppers can find an array of popular department stores, specialty shops, clothing stores, and other merchants in the mall and surrounding area.
The Meredith neighborhood is close to a variety of retail stores and services, as well as a long list of medical facilities, churches, banks, and other businesses. National chain restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and local diners are sprinkled around the mall area and throughout the neighborhood.
What is currently known as the Meredith neighborhood was once a large farmyard. When the larger northwest area gained approval in 2000 to break into three separate neighborhoods, the namesake from the original Meredith Dairy Farm was selected.
At that point the volunteer group known as the Meredith Neighborhood Association became one of the 52 groups belonging to the Des Moines Neighbors. The MNA participates in an active police-community-school relationship. The group organizes community service programs and fundraisers.
Meredith Middle School, a large public school serving 6th-8th graders, is home to the Huskies. The new Hoover-Meredith Technology Learning Center opened in 2010, merging media services and conference space with nearby Hoover High School.
Although the cost of housing runs slightly higher in this family-friendly neighborhood compared to some Des Moines areas, it is still very affordable. The well-kept community features a mix of older and newer homes that are often shaded by mature trees.
The southern border of Meredith combines Douglas and Aurora Avenues, while the city limits line marks the north. Beaver Avenue marks the eastern boundary, and 51st and the city limits line is the western boundary.
