Oakhill Jackson is a neighborhood in eastern Cedar Rapids, Iowa, about 2.5 miles from the heart of the downtown area. This community encompasses the 52401 zip code area and is bordered by 10th Street Southeast, Mt. Vernon Road Southeast on the north, and the Cedar River on the south. On the west, it extends roughly to Third Avenue Southeast, and on the east it falls just short of 19th Street Southeast. The Oakhill Jackson neighborhood is part of Linn County.
Part of this community is residential, but it also hosts the Oak Hill Cemetery and most of St. John’s Cemetery on the east, as well as Mercy Medical Center on the north. Two small community parks – Greene Square Park and Sinclair Park – can also be found within neighborhood bounds, providing convenient options for outdoor recreation. Most of the residences in this neighborhood can be found in the northeast portion, adjacent to the cemeteries. The western and southern portions of the neighborhood are largely devoted to commercial and industrial interests.
In addition to all of the amenities within neighborhood bounds, residents of Oakhill Jackson also enjoy easy access to a variety of area attractions. To the north of the river, these include Van Vechten Park, Coe College, Mt. Mercy College, and Cedar Rapids Country Club. The latter is considered one of the finest private clubs in the Midwest, offering an 18-hole golf course, tennis, swimming pool, fitness center, and lounge.
On the other side of the river, just six minutes from Oakhill Jackson, is downtown Cedar Rapids, which hosts a variety of cultural attractions, entertainment, shopping, and dining. Among the options here are the Westdale Mall and Kingston Stadium – home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels minor league baseball team.
